Its mission is to alleviate poverty through entrepreneurship by offering loans, savings programs, credit establishment, and financial services to low-income families and individuals in the U.S. Grameen America is built upon the success and experienced staff of the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh, which was created by Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

About the Job:
Grameen America is looking for a Vice-President of Finance. S/he will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. S/he will serve as a key member of the executive team and play a critical role in implementing the strategy for Grameen America. S/he will provide direction and leadership for finance and human resources and must be able to adapt to an evolving environment. The position will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, and for building the business processes to include identification and implementation of opportunities for improvement of the finance and accounting operations, systems, and internal controls necessary to support a growing non-profit organization.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, and enhance as necessary, all accounting, internal control (implementing and monitoring), human resources, and treasury activities;
  • Direct all month-end and year-end closing activities including ownership and delivery of timely reporting of financial statements;
  • Lead the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts; Monitor actual financial performance to projections and develop actionable recommendations;
  • Develop consistent financial performance measurements and enhance financial controls to ensure data integrity and accuracy of financial statements;
  • Maintain, and enhance as necessary, financial processes and systems that can appropriately support the organization’s mission and growth plan;
  • Provide financial, budgeting, and analytical support to the Development Team as needed and ensure compliance with all grant requirements;
  • Support the development, monitoring, and reporting of key financial reporting metrics;
  • Coordinate and oversee the completion of the annual external audit and completion of the IRS Form 990. Ensure compliance with non-profit regulations;
  • Manage cash flow and any related analysis;
  • Oversee financing activities and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements. Establish and maintain banking relationships;
  • Supervise finance and human resources staff including directing job assignments, setting appropriate goals, and monitoring performance in order to maximize performance;
  • Serve as central point of contact with finance & audit committee and oversee organization of quarterly meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, MBA desirable;
  • Experienced finance leader with a proven ability to manage people and financial operations and to improve organizational effectiveness in a fast-paced environment;
  • At least 10 years of professional management experience including supervision of staff; non-profit experience preferred;
  • Experience in or knowledge of non-profit accounting, including fund and grant reporting;
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret accounting and financial data in order to provide solid recommendations;
  • Well developed budgeting and forecasting skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures;
  • Team-oriented focus with a hands-on approach and willingness to provide support within the finance department and guidance to other teams as well;
  • Experience optimizing business practices;
  • Experience working with outside auditors;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
