Project Manager
Reporting to the Regional Director, Middle East and North Africa, s/he will lead and manage all aspects of Syria related project(s) including fundraising and identification of new opportunities. In particular, s/he will:
• Co-ordinate the day-to-day management of the project(s);
• Monitor political developments impacting the project(s) and provide substantive input and advice to further project objectives;
• In co-operation with project-related consultants, work with representatives of political forces and organise meetings of key stakeholders to the conflict;
• Prepare and develop project funding proposals, maintain budgets and oversee proper distribution and accounting of project funds;
• Report to, and maintain regular contact with, donor representatives;
• Supervise and develop project-related staff, and provide performance feedback
• Represent the HD Centre in different contexts including with senior government and institutional officials and donors as needed;
• Help identify, pursue and manage new mediation work in the region related to the Syrian crisis;
• Contribute to other lines of work such as the HD Centre’s Policy and Mediation Support and Oslo forum programmes;
• Travel as project requires.
Qualifications: candidates should have a Masters degree in conflict resolution, political science, development studies or in a related field, extensive knowledge of or experience in international peace and security issues and conflict mediation, and at least seven years of work experience in an international environment, of which several in the Middle East region. S/he must be fluent in English and possess strong writing and reporting skills in English. Fluency in French and knowledge of Arabic would be a major asset. Candidates must have experience in managing and developing projects, as well as in building and managing networks.
Personality: The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as confidence in dealing with high-level personalities. S/he must show excellent team spirit while being able to work with minimal supervision, high motivation, and sense of initiative, creativity and ability to multi-task.
