About the Job:
Opportunity International is looking for a Director, Mobile Money for the GMO. S/he is responsible for directing all aspects of Opportunity’s Mobile Money (MM) product portfolio of services. S/he is responsible for driving the development, management, and promotion of all MM products within the Opportunity International Network.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Establish Centre of Excellence for driving effective use of mobile money throughout the Opportunity network;
- Identify best models and best partners for individual countries;
- Continuously advance the question ‘if I start with a phone as my terminal device, how do I change all of my business processes?’
- Monitor evolution and continuing developments & issue regular updates to the Opportunity members;
- Develop and maintain relationships with major players – including Foundations (Gates, Grameen, CGAP, etc.), Governments, MNOs, payment aggregators and intermediaries, other MFI organizations (whether charitable, such as World Vision, or commercial, such as in India and Mexico);
- Lead key projects in specific countries and advise on local initiatives;
- Technical advice on MM developments, including applicability to particular national situations;
- Commercial advice on MM contracts with related parties: MNOs, Banks, Funders, POS operators, manufacturers, suppliers, and software providers;
- Maintain portfolio of MM projects, studies and related activities in Opportunity;
- Support fund-raising activities and meet with key donor organisations, in conjunction with
- Support Member executives in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, and Germany;
- Act as a speaker and champion of MM at conferences and media events, representing the informed voice of Opportunity on MM matters.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in related activities;
- Experience in branchless banking, mobile phone banking, or other technologies to reach rural and poor populations;
- Understanding of legal and regulatory issues related to mobile financial services;
- Working knowledge of current developments in microfinance, including mobile financial services and one or more of the following: savings, micro-insurance, remittances, financial literacy;
- Experience with payment systems and telecoms technology relevant to MM;
- Experience with partnership and commercial contract experience in this space;
- Working for another major player, perhaps a Foundation or an MNO or industry organization like GSMA;
- Relevant implementation experience on similar projects;
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time to meet the needs of the business. Ideally have lived or worked in the developing world and understand the constraints in the delivery of services;
- Commitment to the Opportunity International Network mission and core Christian values and the ability to incorporate them into the work place;
- Language skills helpful, for example in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese.
