The Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries (BIO) is a development finance institution (DFI) established in 2001 in the framework of the Belgian Development Cooperation to support private sector growth in developing and emerging countries. BIO finances the financial sector, enterprises, and private infrastructure projects.
About the Job:
BIO is looking for an Investment Officer – Latin America to identify, evaluate and supervise investment (equity and loans) in financial institutions in Latin America. S/he will also be responsible for choosing projects that are in line with BIO’s strategy, and evaluating financial and development impact as well as social and environmental issues.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Identify and evaluate investment opportunities using economical, financial, social and environmental parameters;
- Lead and manage evaluation missions on-site;
- Prepare detailed evaluation reports and present investment recommendations to the management;
- Define and negotiate terms of investment, in collaboration with manager;
- Supervise a portfolio of investments in the region. Identify any possible problems and come up with solutions;
- Networking : constantly improve relationships with local clients, contractors, financial institutions, and Belgian representatives, as well as other financial institutions active in Latin American markets.
Qualifications:
- High level education in Business Administration, Economics or Finance;
- Financial analysis/corporate finance skills/analytical skills;
- Relevant work experience: between 3 and 7 years in corporate finance, corporate banking or financial analysis in a bank, an investment company or an audit company;
- First experience in Latin America countries is an asset;
- Excellent networking, negotiating and communication skills (oral and written);
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
- Language skills: excellent English and Spanish, French and/or Dutch.
