About the Job:
Opportunity International is looking for a Global Program Director. S/he is responsible for leading and directing the program management function and key projects and programs in Opportunity.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for effective projects and programs in Opportunity. Principally, but not restricted to, IT projects and programs;
- Establish and publish standards for the conduct of project and programs in Opportunity;
- Develop processes and support materials, examples, role descriptions, financial procedures, etc. in support of the above, drawing on well-known project methodologies;
- Prepare reports covering progress, issues, risk management and expenditure against budget, on a scheduled basis and in support of specific reporting requirements;
- Establish a program office to record, monitor and maintain all projects and capture data for the above;
- Establish service desk and supplier interfaces for capturing and tracking project work packages;
- Include the requirements of funding project managers who need to track funds dedicated to particular programs and initiatives;
- Provide interventions and turnaround capabilities to projects at risk;
- Personally oversee and direct a selected portfolio of major projects;
- Establish training courses for project managers across the organization.
Qualifications:
- 8 to 10 years of program management experience, in an international organization, running programs which are implemented in or affect multiple countries;
- Experience managing project budgets in excess of $1m and preferably in the range $10m to $20m (or higher);
- Experience working with one or more widely used project management methodologies and able to demonstrate a sound grasp of the principles underlying all methodologies – in particular, experience in relation to projects regarding: business engagement, financial management and automated support;
- Ability to communicate complex issues and help gain consensus through the various levels of organizations, whether internally or externally;
- Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills;
- Ability to navigate in a highly complex matrixed organization and operate effectively in an often ambiguous environment;
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% of the time to meet the needs of the business;
- Requires an understanding of, and a commitment to advancing the mission and core Christian values of Opportunity International and, the ability to incorporate them into the job setting and articulate them to staff;
- Language skills helpful, ideally in Spanish, French, Portuguese or Mandarin.
