OVERVIEW:
Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional trade and is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. Fairtrade offers producers a better deal and improved terms of trade. This allows them the opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future. Fairtrade offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty through their everyday shopping.
Fairtrade International (FLO) is the international non-profit, multi stakeholder body that is responsible for the strategic direction of Fairtrade, sets Fairtrade standards and supports producers.
OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:
The Funding Partnerships Manager is responsible for ensuring that Fairtrade International secures the external funding necessary to achieve its strategic objectives, and that funding approaches across the Fairtrade system are consistent with Fairtrade’s strategic direction and the fundraising strategy.
PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising
• Generate increased income from existing and potential sources
• Identify and research potential funding opportunities : monitor government/institutional funding priorities and funding trends
• Develop and maintain a database of potential new funding partners; identify lead contacts for thematic and/or regional priorities within major funding institutions that could be relevant for other Fairtrade actors
• Propose, develop and implement ways in which the fundraising capacities of Fairtrade (beyond FLO) are increased, including organising and implementing training, for example on project cycle management, proposal writing and budget development.
Funding partner relationships
• Manage Fairtrade International’s funding relationships and ensure appropriate cultivation plans for each
• Coordinate communication with Fairtrade’s consortium of major funding partners and lead on management functions associated with this group
• Gather relevant strategic and operational information from internal and external sources and communicate this as appropriate with funding partners
Grant management
• In collaboration with other staff, develop grant management documentation, e.g. workplans, budgets
• Ensure fulfilment of all contractual obligations to funding partners including timely and accurate narrative and financial reporting
• Work closely with other FLO business units to ensure full understanding and successful implementation of externally funded projects
Budget and Planning
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy that enables Fairtrade to deliver its overarching financial strategy
• Set and manage annual plans, targets and budgets
Other
• Work closely with other FLO business units to ensure appropriate and accurate communication on funding partner-related issues
• Co-ordinate system-wide fundraising group and fundraising plan in order to maximize global funding for Fairtrade
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge / Job-specific competencies:
At least 3-5 years of proven experience with:
– Writing dynamic funding proposals
– Inspiring and persuading people of the value of a specific cause
– Managing complex development projects, preferably with major bi-lateral funding partners
– Working with tools and concepts used in management of development projects, such as log-frames.
– Working with multiple stakeholders
– In depth knowledge of international development environment, including current priorities and trends for funding partner investment
– Using a fundraising database to manage relations
Professional skill requirements
– Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills together with good IT skills, working with Microsoft Office.
– Good planning, research and analytical skills
– Networking: able to build relationships across a wide range of organizations
– Financial and project cycle management skills
– Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English essential; Spanish, French and other relevant languages an advantage
Level of education
– University degree preferred (e.g. international development, social science, international relations) although relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
– This is a full-time position.
– An initial one-year contract is offered. It is envisaged that the contract will be renewable after the initial one year period.
– Location is at Fairtrade International offices in Bonn, Germany
– The working language is English
– Salary as per Collective Bargaining Agreement Scale 6a, commensurate to qualifications and experience plus attractive benefits package.
