Self-Help Federal Credit Union (FCU) is a community development credit union operating in California. It was chartered in 2008 to build in California a statewide network of branches that serve working families and generally underserved communities including people of color, women, and immigrants. Self-Help FCU has grown primarily by merging the operations of seven credit unions which now operate as community trust, a division of Self-Help FCU.
About the Job:
Self-Help Federal Credit Union is seeking a Compliance Officer. S/he who will be responsible to develop, implement, and update compliance programs to reflect regulatory standards and Credit Union expectations.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of current and pending laws and regulations affecting the financial and credit union industry;
- Advise management and Credit Union personnel of emerging compliance issues;
- Responsible for the establishment, training, enforcement and training of controls to mitigate compliance risks;
- Coordinates all procedural updates related to compliance issues;
- Ensure that all required compliance policies are in force and reviewed periodically for adequateness.
Qualifications:
- Should have a four-year college degree or a specialized degree in Business, Finance or Accounting;
- At least 5 to 7 years of banking experience and minimum 2 to 3 years of auditing and compliance experience (in a financial institution preferred) required;
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and credit union operations is required;
- Demonstrated ability to execute a compliance program and take initiative to develop enhancements to regulatory compliance procedures and monitoring as necessary;
- Demonstrated ability to conduct compliance assessments in a cooperative manner that provides well-thought-out recommendations that effectively balances compliance/risk issues with operations and member service quality;
- Bilingual: English/Spanish.
