ACCION USA is a private, nonprofit organization that provides microloans and other financial services to low and moderate income entrepreneurs who are unable to access bank credit for their small businesses. With economic opportunity, these entrepreneurs – often minorities and women – can build assets, better provide for their families, and strengthen their communities.
About the Job:
ACCION USA is looking for a Microlending Intern – Miami. S/he will work closely with ACCION USA loan consultants to grow and strengthen the lending portfolio. From the beginning of the microlending process, the Intern will provide outreach and intake while assisting in the stages of document collection and final disbursal. This internship will start on September 17, 2012 and end on December 21, 2012. It is an unpaid position.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Assist potential clients by providing them with information about ACCION USA’s products and services and helping them complete the loan application;
- After intensive training on risk and financial analysis, assess prospective borrowers’ ability and willingness to take a business loan;
- Play an active role in this growing organization, by participating in cross-departmental projects such as outreach to new clients and technical assistance for borrowers.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in Portuguese is required, fluency in Spanish is preferred;
- Commitment to microfinance and economic development;
- Flexibility and willingness to learn;
- Ability to understand business financials and accounting concepts;
- Previous work experience preferred;
- Proficient in the use of MS Excel;
- Financial education for small business owners (workshop and presentation in the community and with partner organizations).
