About the Organization:
Pro Mujer is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is to support Latin American women living in poverty to build better futures for themselves and their families through microfinance, business skills, and health care support. Pro Mujer leads the microfinance industry in addressing the poorest segment’s multiple needs and in pioneering creative solutions to build awareness and demand for health services. It also provides access to basic healthcare and health promotion and prevention education.

About the Job:
Pro Mujer is looking for a Grant Writer. S/he will work with the foundation and corporations team to develop and write grant proposals and reports for all foundation, family foundation, corporation, bilateral, and multilateral fundraising. S/he will also be responsible for managing the tracking and reporting system for all grants. S/he will work closely with finance department and country program staff to ensure compliance of all grants received and appropriate/timely reporting. As a member of the development department, s/he will assist as needed with all aspects of the fundraising program and provide necessary support. The Grant Writer will report to the development associate manager.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Writing:

    • Work with the director of development and associate manager to write and assemble proposals for funding from foundations, family foundations, corporations, and bilateral and multilateral agencies;
    • Assist development director and development associate manager prepare fundraising materials to solicit corporations, foundation, and bilateral and multilateral agencies;
    • Complete required progress reports and final reports for all fundraising sources.
  • Information and materials management:

    • Communicate with the finance and operations departments, as well as country program staff, to gather necessary and accurate information for grant applications, proposal budgets, and reporting;
    • Prepare and update country profiles, country maps, and standardized fundraising materials;
    • Maintain both electronic and paper files to store important donor and prospect information;
    • Assist in preparing presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Prospecting:

    • Conduct prospect research of new corporations, foundations, bilateral, and multilateral agencies sympathetic to Pro Mujer’s mission;
    • Prepare LOIs to new sources of funding.
  • Translating:

    • Translate from Spanish to English reports and/or data needed to produce proposals and reports.
  • Administrative:

    • Maintain record of all proposal submissions, confirm receipt by contacting donor, and ensure that proper follow up is made;
    • Maintain calendar of report and proposal submissions, and ensure that all submissions are made on time;
    • Coordinate conference calls;
    • Record all significant communications with donors in database, including communications with funders and maintain electronic and paper files;
    • Record and track all denied proposals ensuring that, whenever possible, prospect is contacted to discuss reason for denial and determine whether a future submission is advisable.
  • Other:

    • Assist development director and associate manager by serving as liaison, attending meetings, and working with organization leadership and staff to facilitate processing and implementation of grants;
    • Assist as needed with other departmental functions;
    • Manage volunteers and interns.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience with professional writing preferred;
  • Fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written, required;
  • Master’s degree in relevant field preferred;
  • Must be self-motivated, detail and deadline oriented, and capable of working comfortably with a variety of staff at all positions within the organization;
  • Excellent writing, organizational, budgeting, planning, research, and computer skills required;
  • Knowledge of word processing software (MS Office) required and fundraising databases (Donor Perfect) desirable.
