It empowers local communities and individuals to develop and sustain solutions to their own water and sanitation needs.
About the Job:
Water.org is looking for a WATSAN Program Officer. S/he will be responsible for managing the assigned partners of Water.org in India and Bangladesh. S/he will also be responsible for working with the partner to achieve the targets in water and sanitation which are mutually accepted by the partner and Water.org. S/he will diligently monitor the usage of the grants given to NGOs and simultaneously work closely with the MFIs that the NGOs have promoted to ensure that the demand created by the NGO for water and sanitation needs are converted into loans and ultimately water and sanitation improvements by the MFIs. S/he will provide technical services on water and sanitation related matters.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the grantee NGO to ensure judicious usage of grants and ensure that the NGO creates the stipulated demand for water and sanitation needs in the geographies they work;
- Work closely with the MFI of the NGO to see that the demand created by the NGO is converted into viable loans and ultimately water and sanitation improvements by the MFI;
- Through continuous monitoring of both institutions, officers must ensure that partners achieve their targets;
- Provide up to date technical services to the partner organization on all matters related to water and sanitation development;
- Conduct trainings on technical matters related to water and sanitation for the benefit of the rest of the India team, staff of partner organizations, and other stakeholders;
- Assist in potentially securing new partners and designing new agreements to further expand Water.org’s WaterCredit initiative;
- Assist in water/sanitation and microfinance sector development activities as required.
Qualifications:
- Post Graduate degree in Water and Sanitation related studies appropriate to the job requirements of the position;
- Minimum 5 years of experience;
- Experience of working in water and sanitation areas;
- Spoken skills in English and fluency in national and regional languages;
- Strong writing skills in English;
- Experience of working in MFIs would be an added advantage;
- Strong experience in project/program management and financial management;
- Computer literacy, including MS Office packages;
- Must demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and professionalism;
- Frequent travel to partner organizations is required. An estimated 30-50% of the time would be spent with partners;
- Should have good interpersonal and leadership skills.
