About the Organization:
Microcredit Summit Campaign (MCS) is a global anti-poverty campaign. It helps to bring together microfinance practitioners, advocates, educational institutions, donor agencies, international financial institutions, NGOs, and others involved with microcredit to promote best practices in the field, to stimulate the interchanging of knowledge, and to work towards reaching their goals. MCS seeks to reach and empower 175 million of the world’s poorest families with microloans by 2015.
About the Job:
MCS is looking for a Communications & Social Media Intern. S/he will support the Campaign’s communications and social media strategy with a view to strengthening member engagement and mobilizing the grassroots. S/he will also assist with administrative tasks and basic research.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Support transition and launch of new Campaign website;
- Draft major communication pieces including press releases and e-mails sent to a 12,000 member database in English, French, and Spanish;
- Support dissemination strategy for materials from the 2011 Global Microcredit Summit, the State of the Microcredit Summit Campaign Report 2012 and other Campaign projects;
- Support outreach and promotional strategies on social media platforms as well as with major print and non-print media outlets in the US and internationally;
- Providing content updates to the Campaign website.
Qualifications:
- Able to commit a minimum of 24 hours per week for a minimum of five months for the Fall semester;
- Proficient spoken and written English and Spanish and/or French required. Arabic and Portuguese are also useful;
- Highly motivated self-starters with a passion for international development, particularly for reaching and empowering the very poor.
